"People expect you to have cooler friends than us," said Luna, once again displaying her knack for embarrassing honesty. "You are cool," said Harry shortly. "None of them was at the Ministry. They didn't fight with me." "That's a very nice thing to say," beamed Luna. --Half-Blood Prince |

------------
It was one in the morning when Luna Potter woke up, realizing that her husband of three years, Harry, was most decidedly not in their bed. Luna always knew when Harry wasn't there. Always.
She got up, slipped into her her fuzzy blue slippers and went out into the hall, intending to get a drink of water and find her husband. She stopped at the end of the hall, all thoughts of water gone. The door was open.
There Harry was, in the newly occupied nursery. He had lit the candle night-lights and was on his knees at the side of the crib, looking in on the newest Potter. Luna smiled, feeling very at peace with the world. She padded softly over to Harry and put a loving hand on his shoulder.
"Harry, what are you doing?"
He didn't look up but for the briefest second - though she would never forget how tender, loving, and blissful he looked - and reached out a hand to smooth the already unruly black hair of their son.
"Do you think he'll be okay not sleeping with us?" he asked softly, drawing his hand back.
"Yes, I'm sure he'll be fine, Harry. He's always slept sounder than a snorkack."
"I just, I just don't want him to think that we're abandoning him...that we don't love him anymore." His voice was very soft.
"I think he knows, senses that we love him deeply," she voiced, kneeling down as well.
"I couldn't stand it if he thought otherwise. I don't want anything to happen to him." He smiled as the very young Potter gave a cooing yawn.
"Are you okay, Harry?" Luna sensed the disharmony in her husband, as she had been able to do since she first met him.
"It's like a dream, sometimes. I mean, look at me! I'm blissfully married...I'm a father! I have a family of my own! I'm so amazingly happy and content. I have the life that I never dreamed I would have. And yet my biggest fear is that something will happen and I'd lose you and Albus."
"Harry, I can't promise you anything other than my love and friendship, because that will never change. I do know that Albus and I are not going anywhere, unless it's to follow you."
Luna took his hand, lacing her fingers with his. He gave a brief squeeze.
"He's amazing, isn't he?" Harry sounded awestruck.
"He is amazing." So did she.
"We did really, really good." He was smiling.
"We did." So was she.
"I love you, Luna." He looked into her eyes, making her feel as though she were the only woman alive.
"I love you too, Harry." He smiled at him, a gesture that never failed to sooth him utterly.
The couple stood, careful not to jar the crib or do anything that would disturb the snorkack and snitch filled dreams of their son.
"Luna?" Harry said suddenly.
"Hmm?"
"Could we...could we keep him with us, for one more night?"
"Yes. I think Albus needs us too."
At her words, Harry tenderly picked Albus up, cradling the still-slumbering infant in his arms. He smiled, and walked out of the room as Luna waved her hand and the candle night-lights went out. They walked softly and slowly, in no real hurry. Into their room they went, lying down on the bed, facing each other, Albus settled cozily between them. They fell asleep watching him, and therefore did not see the smile on the infant's little, chubby angelic face.
He was with them for one more night.
