"People expect you to have cooler friends than us," said Luna, once again displaying her knack for embarrassing honesty.

"You are cool," said Harry shortly. "None of them was at the Ministry. They didn't fight with me."

"That's a very nice thing to say," beamed Luna.

Summary: They Knew.

***

It was a cool autumn day, when they all gathered there. October 31st, Hallowe'en, to be precise. It was the tenth anniversary of his death. The five adults had all known him: two had been his greatest friends, one who was nearly him, one who had loved him and set him free, and one, who had been his greatest source of happiness, that earned his love in return.

The four children never knew him. They knew his story, and what their parents had told them, but they never met him.

Madilen and Jamison knew that their mother had been his first great love and that their father had nearly been the one destined to be in the grave instead of him.

Lilian knew that he had had no greater friends than her parents, and that they had been the friends, siblings, and support that he had so desperately needed.

Garret knew that his mother had loved him greatly and that, in return, had been the one he loved most of all, and that he, Garret, would never know his father.

The four children knew that it was a day to dress up and show respect. Today, instead of wild colours and grass stained jeans, they dressed up, with ties, nice sweaters, and clean shoes.

The adults knew that he had been an amazing boy, friend, lover, man, and hero. They knew that he had been noble and loyal and selfless. They knew that losing him had created a void in their lives that could never be filled.

They all knew that he had died for a cause and that the best way to repay him, if it was possible, was to live, long and well.

They all knew that they would be in this same place next year, and all the years to follow, as long as they lived and breathed. They knew that they would come and continue to honor the man who had touched so many lives and never truly lived one of his own. They would come and honor the Boy-Who-Lived, the man who lived on inside them. But most of all, they would com to remember him. Harry James Potter. Just Harry.
