- quotation -

"People expect you to have cooler friends than us," said Luna, once again displaying her knack for embarrassing honesty.

"You are cool," said Harry shortly. "None of them was at the Ministry. They didn't fight with me."

"That's a very nice thing to say," beamed Luna.

POTTY & LOONY >> BOOK MOMENTS : ORDER OF THE PHOENIX

----------------------------------

Chapter 10: Luna Lovegood

-- The first meeting. (Though to this day I have no idea how even Harry managed to not notice someone like Luna for three whole years before now.) Harry, Neville, and Ginny sit in Luna's compartment of the Hogwarts Express because no other seats are available - likely because she, according to Harry's thoughts, gives off an air of "distinct dottiness." Luna quickly focuses on Harry, staring intently at him. A short while later, Neville, playing with his new plant, douses everyone in the compartment in smelly Stinksap, just in time for Harry's crush Cho Chang to see. Harry finds himself wishing Cho had seen him sitting with "cooler" people than Neville and Luna... a sentiment that will drastically change before year's end.

-- When disembarking the train, Luna offers to carry Pigwidgeon's cumbersome cage for Harry.

-- Harry sees the thestrals pulling the carriages, completely baffled as to why he's never seen them before now and why no one else seems to see them. Luna assures him he's not going mad, that she can see them too. Harry desperately turns to Luna for more, staring into her eyes. She goes on to say the thestrals have always been there and not to worry; he's just as sane as she is. Harry's not entirely reassured, but follows her into the carriage.

----------------------

Chapter 13: Detention With Dolores

-- Harry and Luna spot each other when she emerges from a Herbology class. When she sees Harry, her eyes bulge excitedly and she walks straight over to him. She immediately declares she believes Voldemort's back and that Harry fought and escaped him. When the Patil twins giggle at Luna and Luna thinks it's about what she told Harry, she protests indignantly. Hermione makes an irritable comment to this, which seems to annoy Luna, who glares at her and leaves. Harry asks if Hermione can try not to offend the only people who believe he's not crazy.

----------------------

Chapter 19: The Lion and the Serpent

-- Luna wears an elaborate lion hat to support Gryffindor in its Quidditch match against Slytherin. Harry hears it roaring in the cheering stands during the match and, despite Gryffindor trailing in score, feels heartened.

------------------------

Chapter 21: The Eye of the Snake

-- The last Dumbledore's Army meeting before the holidays, Luna is the first to arrive where Harry is alone in the Room of Requirement. She observes they're standing directly under the mistletoe; Harry jumps away from it. Luna tells him it's a good idea, as it's probably infested with "nargles."

-- When Harry and Cho are under the mistletoe, Harry nervously comments it's probably full of nargles. Cho asks what nargles are; Harry has no idea, stammering that she'd have to ask Luna. (You're finally under the mistletoe with your dream girl, and you start thinking about what another girl said? Nice, Harry. ;))

--------------------

Chapter 25: The Beetle at Bay

-- Luna agrees to help Hermione and Harry clear Harry's name by asking her father to publish an interview with Harry in The Quibbler, where Harry will detail the truth of his encounter with Voldemort.

---------------------

Chapter 32: Out of the Fire

-- When Harry is arguing with Ron and Hermione about creating a distraction for Umbridge so he can secretly contact Grimmauld Placeand find out whether his vision of Sirius being tortured was true or false, Luna walks into the situation all but by accident with Ginny. Harry snaps that there's nothing they can do to help, to which Luna counters that he's being "rather rude." When Harry does agree to let them help, she does so without question.

---------------------

Chapter 33: Fight and Flight

-- Harry insists he's going to the Ministry alone to save Sirius. Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Neville, and Luna stubbornly refuse, insisting that they want to help him. It's Luna who figures out a way for everyone to fly to the Ministry, reminding Harry of the thestrals.

--------------------

Chapter 34: The Department of Mysteries

-- Harry and his friends come across a mysterious Veil in the Ministry, from which Harry hears mysterious ethereal voices. Luna alone seems to hear the voices too, declaring that there are people in the Veil.

--------------------

Chapter 35: Beyond the Veil

-- In the battle with the Death Eaters, Luna successfully fights longer than any of the six except Harry and Neville.

---------------------

Chapter 38: The Second War Begins

-- The Ultimate H/L scene! Harry, moody and grieving for Sirius, refuses to talk to even Ron and Hermione about Sirius' death, even actively avoiding them to do so. He comes across Luna, who's pinning up notices for things people have stolen from her. Despite his own moodiness, he feels sorry for Luna, declaring that there's no reason for people to steal her things. He offers to help her find them, though she politely declines. Luna asks why he's not at the end of term feast either, then deduces it's because of Sirius. Harry finds he doesn't mind Luna talking about him, because she's seen someone die too. He asks, and she tells him how at age nine she saw her mother die. Harry apologizes, and Luna serenely tells him that even though it was horrible, she knows she'll still see her Mum again. Harry's not sure what she means, and Luna reminds him about the voices behind the Veil, that the people behind it were simply lurking out of sight. Despite himself, Harry feels a bit more hopeful. He asks her again if he can help her find her things, but she assures him they'll all come back in the end. They wish each other a nice holiday, and as Luna leaves Harry feels the "terrible weight" in his stomach lessen.
