"People expect you to have cooler friends than us," said Luna, once again displaying her knack for embarrassing honesty.

"You are cool," said Harry shortly. "None of them was at the Ministry. They didn't fight with me."

"That's a very nice thing to say," beamed Luna.

POTTY & LOONY >> FILM MOMENTS : ORDER OF THE PHOENIX

----------------------------------

The first meeting, along very similar lines as the book. After disembarking the Hogwarts Express with Hermione, Ron, and Neville, Harry turns around and for the first time sees a thestral, attached to a carriage where Luna sits alone reading The Quibbler upside-down. After Ron and Hermione tell him they don't see anything, he approaches the carriage. Luna lowers The Quibbler from where it's been hiding her face, telling Harry he's not going mad. She can see them too, she says, and that he's just as sane as she is.

-----

Harry gets into a spat with Ron and Hermione, feeling no one understands what he's going through. He stalks off and goes outside. Spotting a thestral diving into the forest, Harry goes in to look, where he comes upon Luna and a group of thestrals. Luna greets him, without turning around. He notices she's barefoot, and asks if her feet are cold. She replies that they are a bit, but that all her shoes seem to have mysteriously disappeared and that she suspects nargles are behind it. Harry looks at the thestrals, asking what they are, and she tells him, and explains how only those who have seen death can see them. He awkwardly asks if she's seen anyone die, and she explains that she saw her mother die from a botched experimental spell when she was nine. Harry says he's sorry; Luna admits that she's still very sad sometimes, but that she's still got her dad. She tells Harry both she and her dad believe Harry's story about Voldemort returning and Harry fighting him . Harry replies that they're the only ones who seem to, but Luna says he shouldn't be so sure. As she kneels to feed a baby thestral, she remarks how gentle thestrals really are, only that people shy away from them - because they're different, Harry finishes. Luna tells Harry that him being alone is probably exactly what You-Know-Who wants - alone, Harry's not as much as a threat. As the scene ends, the two share a warm look, faintly smiling at one another. The next we see Harry, he's seeking out Ron and Hermione again.

-----

The initial Dumbledore's Army meeting at the Hog's Head. After Harry becomes discouraged that everyone only seems to be there to hear him talk about Cedric's death, he's stopped from leaving when Luna suddenly asks if it's true he can produce a Patronus charm. After Ron and Hermione detail all Harry's victories over his time at Hogwarts, Harry stops them, telling them they're making it sound better than it really is. He tells the group that real life is far more dangerous than school, that you never know when you're going to be faced with being murdered, or watching a friend die. As he says this, he looks back at Luna and Cho, hesitating before he continues.

-----

The last DA meeting before Christmas. When Luna wishes Harry a merry Christmas as she walks out, Harry happily wishes her a great Christmas in return (most of the other students he only did a half-hearted "Merry Christmas"). When he and Cho spot the mistletoe before they kiss, he remarks that it's probably infested with nargles. Since the book scene with Harry and Luna under the mistletoe talking about nargles is cut from the film, it's even more interesting that he still happens to be thinking of Luna just before kissing another girl. ;)

-----

The final DA meeting, where Harry is teaching the others how to cast Patronuses. Luna casts a bunny Patronus that begins to hop through the air all over the room, much to everyone's delight; Harry turns her way and smiles.

-----

During the thestral flight to the Ministry, Harry cranes his neck around several times to watch Luna serenely flying on her own thestral right behind him.

-----

When Harry and his friends come upon the Veil in the Ministry, he and Luna are the only ones who can hear the voices coming from it.

-----

At Hogwarts after Sirius' death, Harry comes upon Luna alone in a corridor hanging notices for her lost things. Unlike the book, he doesn't half-heartedly try to avoid her. He asks why she's not at the feast, and she explains about people taking her things. Harry says that that's horrible, but Luna assures him it's all in good fun, though since it's the last night she really does need them back. She tells him she's sorry about Sirius dying, and takes Harry's hand in hers, smiling sympathetically at him. Harry asks if she needs any help finding her things; she replies she doesn't need it - things always have a way of coming back in the end, she says, even if it's not in the way you expect them to. As she says this, the camera pans up to Luna's sneakers, dangling from the ceiling. She says she's going to go have some pudding, and skips off, waving goodbye to him as she does so. As she skips away, Harry continues to look up at Luna's sneakers, making the connection between her words and his own situation.
