"People expect you to have cooler friends than us," said Luna, once again displaying her knack for embarrassing honesty. "You are cool," said Harry shortly. "None of them was at the Ministry. They didn't fight with me." "That's a very nice thing to say," beamed Luna. --Half-Blood Prince |

RANDOMOSITY >> HOW DID YOU BECOME A H/L SHIPPER?
One of the things I enjoy most about Harry/Luna fandom is hearing other shippers' thoughts on the pairing, why this ship has such a strong hold on them. Aside from that they're so damn cute, anyway. ;)
What's your story of how you fell in love with H/L? Share it! :) But keep any bashing of other pairs/people to a polite minimum, please. This should be all about spreading the Loony love. ;)
Newest stories are at the top.

Well, one day I was looking around on the internet, and it was just there I started liking the Harry Potter books and was looking for a HP website. And I looked at all the characters' names, then I saw Luna's name. When I saw that name, I don't know, I just wanted to know more about her. So then I went to the store (or shop) and saw the OOTP book there and I flipped through it and read about the Luna Lovegood character, and I fell in love with her. Then I bought it, read it and I finished reading it in like four months, very slow reader I am. But as I read it, I started to like Luna and then I noticed more and more of Luna and Harry together. In the beginning, I thought it would've been Ginny, but that was just in the beginning, and I wasn't really rooting for her, until I read about Luna. And at the end of the book with Harry and Luna talking, I just realized 'These two are meant to be,' they stuck with me that whole time. And from there on I stayed with them, even if it's over now, I still love them together. And there is always a second chance.

Well, it came mid-way while reading HBP, when it struck me how much it seemed to be hinted at in book five. Sadly, the monster in Harry's chest put an end to my short-lived ideas, but I still held hope. It reached a fever pitch after the OotP film, which seemed to blatantly show signs of a relationship between Harry and Luna. On top of that, Daniel Radcliffe himself has said that he thought the same, post HBP. Even though the series is over, I still have hope... for... THE ENCYCLOPEDIA!

Hmm, I wasn't a HP/LL fan until very recently. After I saw the fifth movie, I became an HP/LL fan. I just never saw Luna as anything special until I saw Evanna Lynch portray her, and suddenly I saw her as so much more. She was this beautiful, funny character, a little loony but in the way a genius would be. And I suddenly realized just how much her and Harry had in common. And then when they held hands at end...well, that just cinched it.
And so here I am, a huge HP/LL shipper now!

I suppose I am an oddity in that I started considering the Luna-Harry ship very early while reading Order of the Phoenix. I can't quite place where, but I started getting an inkling very close to the middle and was considerably more hooked by the end. Since then I have reviewed, discussed, written about and toyed with the idea of them being together– and I absolutely love this pairing.
I have NEVER put much faith in the Harry-Ginny relationship. For one thing, how could a relationship in which Harry sees her as nothing more than a baby sister change so drastically overnight? Obviously there is something strange here. There was no previous chemistry, just school-girl crushes that were never retaliated, yet suddenly Harry is in love? I absolutely adore Ginny as a character, but she is not now, nor has she ever been, the girl for Harry.
But Harry and Luna is something that if not probable, is at least plausible. Who continually catches Harry's attention and makes him see things as they truly are? Who did he get caught under the mistletoe with? Who can tell him something completely ridiculous, and end up having it make more sense to him than several "sane" things uttered to him by his other friends? Who accompanied Harry to Slughorn's party and ended up brightening his evening? Who has a similar past as Harry? Who explained to Harry why he could see these strange creatures that few else could?
Luna. Need I say more?

For the longest time, I had no Harry ship.
None of the popular Harry ships ever clicked with me. I shipped Ron/Hermione for the longest time, and that was pretty much it.
After the release of Order of the Phoenix is when I really got heavily involved in fandom. Anyone who's been in fandom for very long can tell you that shipping is something that comes up all the time--people care about it. It got me thinking. Who would I ship Harry with?
Harry/Luna had actually never occurred to me until other people brought it up. The more I thought about it, the more I liked it. And, pretty soon, I fell in love with it and it surpassed Ron/Hermione as my OTP. And that's all there is to it, I suppose. Not the most glamorous of stories, but that's how it goes.

I have always been a Harry Potter fan, at first I didn't really care about who Harry nor anybody ended up with. So I proclaimed myself of shipping nobody with nobody.
It wasn't 'til the release of the OotP, which got me thinking. I liked Luna, but I still wasn't so sure of the whole "Shipping World" but I started to develop a tiny inkling toward it. On my second reading of the OotP, at a much slower pace, that inkling grew to toward an interest. After some thinking and reading, something just clicked. They were perfect, it wasn't like the usual relationship in a book where the Hero guy, gets the perfect girl. It was different in a good way. That's how I became a Harry/Luna shipper.

Actually, I have been, I am and I will always be a loyal and faithful Harry/Hermione shipper, but after the unexpected turning that occurred with Half-Blood-Prince (I’m still upset!), I realized that if it couldn’t be Harry/Hermione then Harry/Luna would surely be a less distressing defeat and – last but not least – a more tolerable solution.
Besides being that they're very similar, I believe that – after Hermione – Luna is the only one who can accept and understand Harry for who he really is, that’s to say “just Harry” and not “the chosen one” or “the boy-who-lived." Moreover in her site “aunt Jo” explains that Hermione is a bit like a certain Joanne Kathleen in her young days (I’ve always said that Hermione is a bit like me when I was younger...) BUT did you notice the photo at JKR.com? That one on the home page! Well… in that photo JKR and her husband unbelievably resemble to Luna and Harry, don’t they?
In my opinion the photo in question can be a fundamental clue and for this reason I’m pretty sure that if it wouldn’t be Hermione (JKR's transposition in the books!) Luna would be a perfect alternative.

Since your site is friggin' adorable, I decided to add my little taste. ;D
I started shipping H/L when I read the quote "other than that, she looked quite nice" Squee, please? I fell in love with Luna herself at the end of the fifth book. =] I noticed that she's very smart, but her vague loopiness seems to get in the way. They're perfect... but they're not. That's why they're perfect. :]
H/G is just a little too bland, you know? :P

Truth is, I could barely read any HP fanfiction or anything because there was too damn much. I tried every once in a while, but could not find anything to read. Eventually I got tired and started to read other fanfics.
Now, it was literally about two months ago when I once again got into Harry Potter mode and began to find any information. As luck would have it, I found a plethora of HP fanfics and began to read random ones. I started to read at least one of each non-slash pairing of Harry Potter and weeded it down to three. I then saw the ABC Family Harry Potter specials and was instantly drawn to this pairing. I reread OotP and HBP after the specials and fell in love with the Harry/Luna pairing. That's basically how I got here.

To be quite honest, Harry/Luna really didn't register with me in the first few months after OotP. I didn't mind it, but I was still reeling over the loss of my beloved Harry/Cho. I adored Luna from the get go, but really didn't ship her at all.
I picked up a new OTP, Harry/Susan, and I stuck with that for a long time. I visited the Harry/Luna ship on SCUSA one day, just for a little bit of fun, because Harry/Luna really started to interest me. I read the essay, and I sorta liked it. The shippers on Loonies & Lions were really nice, and I just coming back to visit.
I was a full-fledged Harry/Luna shipper pre-HBP and I've been sailing it proudly ever since. I'm always at home on what I consider to be the friendliest, most laid-back ships in the Harry/Potter fandom. I've gotten to the point to where I don't care if Harry/Luna ever becomes canon, because having all the freedom to play around is unbeatable, in my opinion. I'm *Ivy Riddle*, and my ship is Harry/Luna.
